THE PALM TREE RESIDENCE
Originally built in the 1800’s by the Dacoronia family, who exported the famous vinsanto wine in Malta, the Palm Tree Residence is part of a historical property consisting of three houses: the Captain House, the Palm Tree Cave House and the Palm Tree Cave Studio along with 2 private chapels (St. Paraskevi and St. Dimitrios) and a small vineyard.
It was named after an old palm tree once planted by the owners themselves while constructing the property as it is considered the tree of life and its branches symbolize the triumph of life over death.
Upon entrance, you walk a long corridor viewing seasonal flowers on your left and right after that, you face the old winery location consisting of two separate residences –the winery and the storehouse, now called The Palm Tree Cave House & the Palm Tree Cave Studio- sharing the lower yard and the palm tree garden, a completely independent and separate structure from the rest of the property.
The winery and its storehouse were renovated with great respect to the local architectural tradition of the canavas, the natural environment and privacy, providing all modern amenities and minimal design for the guests.
THE CAVE HOUSES
They are called Τhe Palm Tree Cave House and Cave Studio and are two cave houses designed to host artists, scientists or researchers as guests. Since they are cave houses, the temperature is always perfect with a feeling that makes it really pleasant to live in. They are furnished with elegant, modern pieces and a touch of contemporary luxury is combined with the unique architectural shape of the cave.
All rooms have access to the main yard. The common yard overlooks to an old palm tree garden surrounded by traditional plants and flowers. The yard is equipped with table, chairs, and an umbrella.
Next to the cave house entrance there are stairs leading to the Captain House. On the left you will find a piece of land called “mpostani” in Greek, where local, organic vegetables and fruit are grown, such as tomatini, zucchini, white eggplant, grapes or even figs which guests are welcomed to taste throughout their stay. On the right the upper terrace provides partial view of caldera, the Venetian Castle and the Aegean Sea offering the guests a cozy corner with chairs and sunbeds to relax and enjoy sunrise or sunset.
Reaching the top stairs lies The Captain House which is the main residence and is now called The Palm Tree Workshops Space (www.thepalmtreeworkshops.com) where we host and organize all kinds of creative workshops. It is located in the heart of the property overlooking the Aegean Sea and the Venetian Castle. Recently renovated with respect towards the atmosphere and style of the traditional architecture, it combines and offers all modern comforts while providing the necessary serenity and privacy, ideal for any kind of creative workshops.
The main room of the Workshops Space can be used by our residents/participants as a working location for their work in progress.
All three houses offer ultimate privacy and tranquility combined with unique architecture and luxurious comfort.
